Procuring change: Navigating the circular economy through a strategic and social lens
Cynthia Reynolds will be presenting the Coalition’s Circularity4All Hierarchy for Social & Circular Procurement
Public and private buyers play a pivotal role in promoting circular practices. The European Commission aims to mandate green procurement criteria in sectoral legislation, fostering circularity. Circular procurement, reported in the CSRD(open in new window), aids private firms in achieving sustainability goals. Overcoming behavioural challenges is key. This session explores cases where authorities and companies successfully adopted social and circular procurement.

Introduction by EESC representative Maria Nikolopoulou of the NAT Section (Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment) linking the EU’s circular economy and social equity priorities to global challenges.
Emphasising the facilitation of a communication of priorities, aligning them with shared norms and values for a just transition in both the Global North and South through equitable access to shared tools and resources via the Circular Economy Coalition as a multi-stakeholder Mission-Specific Innovation System.

Coalition Accelerator Session
Circularity4All a hierarchy for resource utilisation and regional ecosystems
This session fosters an interactive global dialogue on shared norms and values for the maintaining of resources at their highest societal value, with a deep dive into regional ecosystems and bio-based solutions focusing on critical issues such as food security, health, poverty reduction, environmental protection and cultural preservation. We will collaboratively explore a strategic prioritisation for the transformation of essential resources, emphasising the paramount importance of the food & feed first principle and the barriers associated with it, and share tools and resources for data-driven mapping of regional ecosystems. Together, let’s shape a unified approach to the Circularity4All principles, connecting insights from the Global North and South.
